The Bishops and Clerics Forum of Nigeria (BAFCON) has threatened to take legal action against the South South Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria over its suspension.

The BAFCON spokesperson described their suspension as nonsensical alleging that the National President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor rushed into conclusion in supporting their suspension.

The South South Chairman of CAN, Archbishop God-Dowell Avwomakpa had announced the suspension of the BAFCON over their alleged moves to reconcile President Goodluck Jonathan with the seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) breakaway governors.

The members were suspended for “dabbling into politics” which according to CAN is unacceptable.

But in a statement signed by the BACFON President, Prophet Jones Ode-Erue, made available to Vanguard, the group argued that it was not true that their interest was only on the G-7governors, emphasizing that “ that our consultations has been centered on injustice, impunity, declension in tolerance amongst leaders and political office holders and insecurity.

“We want to correct in strong terms the misconstruction of our mission by our detractors and urge the press not to be cowed into such deception. It is a known fact that clerics, the world over, are known to be non-partisan and a true man of God will never take side with either party in a dispute,” it stated.

On their purported suspension, it stated that “Avwomakpa has no capacity to suspend us. He is not our member, we only invited him to join us when our delegation visited Governor Rotimi Amaechi. We give him 48 hours to retract the announcement of our suspension and all the bad things he said about us on Delta Television or else we will institute legal action against him and CAN.”
