The United States has warned of a possible terrorist threat in some parts of Nigeria. This is following the bomb blast which happened yesterday at Nyanya, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja killing at-least 16 people.

According to the security message which was reportedly issued today by the US Consular General in Lagos “US citizens should avoid all travel to Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe States.”

This it says is because of the the May 14, 2013 state of emergency proclamation for those states by the Federal Government.

According to Jon Gambrell, an Associated Press reporter currently who made the content of the said warning public, the US authorities warned of a possible terror threat which may involve Sheraton Hotels in Lagos.

The statement which was made available to the country’s citizens in Nigeria says, “As of late April, groups associated with terrorism allegedly planned to mount an unspecified attack against the Sheraton Hotel in Nigeria, near the city of Lagos.

“There was no further information regarding which of the two Sheraton Hotels in Lagos was the possible target, or if both of the Sheraton Hotels are possible targets,” it says.

The release, however, did not give further information on the timing or method of attack cautioning all United States citizens to avoid these hotels.

The US Embassy issued a similar warning in 2011 over possible attacks on three hotels in Abuja but none happened.
