APC tells Jonathan to cancel rallies, parties until kidnapped girls are found

President Goodluck Jonathan has been urged by the  All Progressives Congress (APC) to cancel the political rally being planned for him by the Adamawa PDP for Tuesday, saying the President cannot and should not be celebrating when over 200 school girls are missing.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, it said: ”We hope and pray that our daughters are released safely even before Tuesday, April 29th when the rally is to be held, but until then, it is insensitive and indecent for anyone, least of all the President who is the father of the nation, to engage in any celebratory outing under any guise.” Read more….

Security meeting condemns Nyako, calls for security awareness campaign

An expanded National Security Council between President Goodluck Jonathan, Heads of military and Para-military organisations, state governors and some ministers Thursday unanimously condemned the memo written by the governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako in which he accused president Goodluck Jonathan of carrying out genocide against the north

Addressing state House Correspondents after the meeting, the Minister of Defence , Gen. Aliyu Gusau who was  flanked by the governors of Niger, Abia, Borno and Ekiti states said the meeting enjoined all holders of Public offices to be wary of statements that are capable of exercebating the already precarious security situation in the country. 10 persons escape death, as two-storey building collapse in Lagos 

No fewer than 10 persons escaped death after a two-storey building under construction at 11 Sand Beach lanes off Alonge Street, Oworonshoki, Kosofe Local Government, collapsed at the early hours of Thursday.

It was gathered that the workers were busy on the construction when the building caved-in on them at about 11:00 am, leaving 10 construction workers trapped under the rubbles. Read more…..

Jonathan assures on safety at World Economic Forum

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday reassured the global community of the safety of all participants in next month’s World Economic Forum on Africa billed for Abuja.

He gave the assurance, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Dr. Reuben Abati, while receiving the new China’s Ambassador to Nigeria,  Gu Xiaojie, who presented his letters of credence to him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, the security challenges being experienced in parts of the country will have no adverse effect on the safety of participants at the forum. Read more….
