by Isi Esene

After the deadly attack on the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero yesterday, the 83-year-old monarch appears to be on his way to the United Kingdom.

Sources say the monarch and his two sons who sustained gunshot wounds in the attack were spotted at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano waiting to be flown outside the country for proper medical treatment.

It is not clear the extend of injury sustained by the Emir or if he was injured at all in the attack but sources say he could be heading to the United Kingdom for a routine check-up after the attempt on his life.

Four persons were reportedly killed yesterday as gunmen, believed to have laid ambush, opened fire on the convoy of the Emir on his way back to the palace after attending a Quranic competition in the city.

Among those who lost their lives is the interim Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Kura. The three others are said to be palace guards. Their names were not disclosed.

No group has claimed responsibility for yesterday’s attack.

The Emir had spent several weeks in the UK last year due to ill-health and returned in July 2012.

  1. They can run to other lands, we've got no option than to live in fear and they greated problems in the land.

  2. Serves him right. Monkey! Riding around in a Rolls Royce, in Kano … surrounded by desperate poverty and despair.
