New Jersey wildlife officials are hunting for this deer seen in Rockaway Township with an arrow through its head.

A lone deer walking around with an arrow in its head is no joke to residents of a central New Jersey town who have been trying to catch the injured creature for days.

A Rockaway Township woman who photographed the deer sporting a massive arrow jutting straight through its face last week says it appears calm and generally OK, but calls the sight absolutely unnerving.

“He can eat, run and there’s no blood, less chance of infection. I just feel so bad for him …” Susan Darrah wrote with her shocking photo’s upload to Facebook Friday.

Darrah, who is no stranger to deer grazing in her backyard, said she called the state’s Division of Fish and Wildlife after first catching sight of the animal in her backyard, but by the time they got there, the deer was gone.

Susan Darrah, who was the first to spot and photograph the deer in her backyard on Friday, has been on round-the-clock deer watch in hope of seeing it again. The last sighting was on Saturday.

Susan Darrah, who was the first to spot and photograph the deer in her backyard on Friday, has been on round-the-clock deer watch in hope of seeing it again. The last sighting was on Saturday.

The next morning around 7 a.m. she reported the deer back while in the company of four others. It returned again later Saturday afternoon, but managed to evade capture before it could be helped.

When asked on Tuesday if she has seen the deer or has any updates on its condition, she told the Daily News, “Unfortunately, no.”

“I’m still keeping my hopes up another day or two,” she said while also expressing her pleasure in keeping the updates to her growing number of concerned Facebook friends and fans who are both locally and internationally keeping their eyes peeled for updates.

On her page Monday she wrote of having corn and plenty of pears from her tree to potentially draw it back.

If it doesn’t return, she resolves, “I know a thoughtful hunter put him to rest over the weekend.”

If it can be caught, officials told her they’d be able to safely tranquilize it for treatment.
