BUSTED: ‘Repentant Boko Haram member’ arrested by police in Enugu

A man pretending to be a repentant former member of terrorist sect Boko Haram has been apprehended by security agents in Enugu State.

Daniel Danboyi, 35, was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) after it was alleged that he used his tall tale of repentance to extort money from well-meaning churches.

Danboyi, who also goes by Shuaibu Shehu Rabiu, was said to have toured the country regaling intrigued church members with the fictitious story of how he was actively involved in the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents before he repented and became a Christian.

Vanguard reports:

The State Director of DSS, Mr. Victor Duru, who paraded the suspect in Enugu, said that Danboyi, a native of Garshi District, KuraFalls, Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, “has been going about duping innocent Nigerians, using religion as his tool.”

According to him, the suspect was arrested at Mountain of Fire and MiraclesChurch, Zik Avenue, Enugu, in connection with Boko Haram activities

Duru said: “He has been going about with a false testimony, deceiving people, duping and exploiting people in the name of religion.

“He claims that he was a Boko Haram member, who has converted to Christianity.”

He added that Danboyi began the deceit in 2001 in a church at Abuja.
