Chinonso Writes: Easy does it…why not just enjoy not being busy?

When was the last time you had fun? When was the last time you pampered yourself and just forgot about the bustles of your never-ending to-dos? When was the last time you played? When was the last time you smelt and felt nature? When was the last time you noticed and appreciated the beauty of people?

The clock chimed 5:43 a.m. and you were up. You were heavy, nevertheless you had many fishes to fry, hence you had to start in good time. Fast forwarded…Your to-do list was bursting with activities and you approached each item with clinical impatience. You had calls to make, reports to prepare, emails to send and respond to, meetings to attend, visitors to meet, presentations to make, errands to run, follow-ups to do, and, if there was any left time, breakfast or lunch to gulp.

Fast forwarded…It was 7:53 p.m. and you were now en route home after a very very busy, activity-filled day. Alas, the traffic back home was as very very busy as your day and you were stuck in it. You felt drained as you watched vehicles, including yours, take eternity to crawl their way forward. Eventually, thank heavens, you got home and collapsed into your couch, feeling awfully tired and drowsy. Oops! You just sat on something hard…it was the TV remote. You raised your behind, brought it out, and decided to put on your TV set. The late night news was on and the newscaster had something new, nay, newsy to tell you. Unfortunately, you couldn’t wait…you slept off midway. You woke up the next morning feeling tired again, yet ready to continue the wearing routine…PLEASE HALT!

When was the last time you had fun? When was the last time you pampered yourself and just forgot about the bustles of your never-ending to-dos? When was the last time you played? When was the last time you smelt and felt nature? When was the last time you noticed and appreciated the beauty of people? Sure, I admire the fact that you’re such a hard working fellow. But can you take a pause for a while and just play? Take some time to slow down and enjoy not-being-busy. Don’t kill yourself before you die. Play!
