Divorce

A 38-year-old woman, Catherine Obadofin has been granted a divorce from her husband, 41-year-old Afolayan Obadofin by an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court in Ekiti state.

Mrs. Obadofin had sought for divorce over her husband’s alleged beating which were frequent, threat to life, lack of care and public disgrace.

She told the court that Afolayan would always beat her at the slightest provocation, adding that efforts by his relations to talk to him proved abortive.

Nigerian Tribune reports:

The mother of two told the court that on a particular day,  her husband disgraced her publicly by calling her a  prostitute in their son’s school.

Forty-one-year-old Afolayan, while responding, admitted  that the only time he beat his wife was when he went to their children’s school and met his wife who provoked him.

He also added that  he always bought food items  for the home, but alleged that his wife often sold  them to neighbours.

According to him, Catherine packed out of his home without his knowledge.

The court  president, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi, held  that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and consequently dissolved it.

He ordered  that  custody of the children  be awarded to the husband  since he had been taking good care of them.

He, however, ordered that the wife be allowed access to the children.
