#EdoDecides: We don’t have anything to say – PDP

by Isi Esene

Many observers expected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to release a statement throwing in the towel and accepting their loss when the results of yesterday’s governorship elections were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, the state’s PDP remains mum on the elections.

According to the Premium Times report, when contacted to give a reaction, PDP party officials said they were still studying the election results before admitting failure or otherwise. The Edo PDP’s publicity secretary, Matthew Urhokhide, said the party will scrutinise details of the results issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before taking an official stand.

“We want to see how we can first take a closer look at the field results before making an official statement,” Urhokhide said.

The minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, who is a senior member of the party, hurriedly left the state just after the results were announced.

When confronted by reporters, Onolememen told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the election has been concluded and he is returning to Abuja.

He said, “As an Edo citizen, I have performed my duty in the election by voting.”

All efforts to reach the PDP candidate in the election, Charles Airhiavbere, proved abortive as his phone was switched off.

Meanwhile, jubilant ACN supporters defied the early morning rains to express their joy in the streets of Benin after they got the news of Oshiomhole’s victory.

Well, as we all know, success has many fathers but failure is an unclaimed orphan.
