Senator Babafemi Ojudu, vice chairman of Senate Committee on Public Service and Establishment recently revealed in a statement how some officials in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were defrauding innocent citizens seeking employment with the security agency.

According to reports, Ojudu, who is the representative of Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the Upper Legislative Chamber, said in the statement, he told the Senate in a petition filed before it how an official of the NSCDC collected a bribe of N200,000.00 each from each of the 17 indigenes of Ekiti State who were seeking employment with the agency.

The statement read in part:

“Senator Babafemi Ojudu, in a petition, brought to the notice of the Upper House, the case of 17 indigenes of Ekiti State, who had to cough out N200, 000 each to one Femi before they were offered employment into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

“The money was paid into a Skye Bank account with the number (17405….)Ojudu, who said he had in his custody the lodgement voucher with which the money was paid, has vowed to explore all means to ensure that justice is served.

“He explained to the Senate how the 17 indigenes of Ekiti State were recruited, trained and paid salary for three months, only for them to be directed to bring their letters of employment to Abuja after having spent three months in the NSCDC’s employ.

“The whole saga took a dramatic turn in Abuja as their letters of employment and all insignia of the corps earlier given to them were withdrawn and they were sacked.”
