Five members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been abducted at Omademe, Ikwerre Local Government Area, multiple sources told us yesterday. They were abducted on Tuesday night at about 7.20pm.

The NYSC officials in Port Harcourt and security operatives have been deployed to the area to assist with rescuing the abducted youth corpers.

In September last year, gunmen in the state also abducted 5 corps members from their hostel in Unuogha Community Secondary school, Omuma Local Government area.

The State Director of NYSC, Mrs. Esther Chimele-Wogbo is expected to officially brief journalists when full details of what transpired become available. The names of those taken have not been made public.

Speaking on the abduction, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba said a search and rescue team has started a thorough search of communities in the area to apprehend the youths responsible for their abduction and rescue the corps members.

“Police teams have since Tuesday night when the incident happened embarked on a vigorous search. The search is still on to trace the victims and the vehicle used,” he said.

Youths and miscreants in Southern Nigeria often take human hostages in exchange for cash ransom.

  2. God have mercy. I hope they also disband this State from accepting the next batch B of corp members.

  3. This is so sad.

Are we squashing NYSC or what? Why should people's life be endangered just because they're serving their father's land?
