The Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi has expressed his doubts that a bloody revolution can happen in Nigeria.

Amaechi who was speaking on Saturday in Ekiti at The Future Awards Symposium which took place at the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort said the only thing that we can hope for are reforms, not a revolution.

The Future Awards Symposium was attended by the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, Prof. Pat Utomi, Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Group, Tonye Cole, and Chikde Ogeah, the commissioner of information of Delta State who represented the governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, among others.

While delivering his speech, Amaechi said Nigerians have endured several socio-economic and political challenges which has led to revolution in other countries.

He said, “Yes, revolution can happen outside Nigeria. But here, I do not think so. Tell me what happened in Sudan, Libya, Zimbabwe and other countries that have not happened here. Our elasticity has no limit. You do not pray for electricity to be regular but you know that some Nigerians pray ‘God, let the light be stable today.’  We pray without working to solve our problems and we think God will do what we are supposed to do for us.”

He made a reference to the action of youth in Lagos when a team of soldiers when drafted to the Freedom Park, Ojota, during the Occupy Nigeria protest which happened in January last year saying he knew that would happen.

Amaechi said those who genuinely seek change would never be afraid of guns.

The governor also threw verbal jabs at those who are trying to oust him from his position as the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum saying the attempt was due to his outspoken nature over the criminality bedeviling the federal government’s fuel subsidy policy.

He, however, said he was not in support of the call for the disintegration of the country, saying there were many advantages in being together.

  1. Well, Nigerians don’t want what happened in 1967 to repeat itself. It’s not really cowardice. I’ve always heard people saying that South Western Nigerians are cowards. I wonder if it’s true, especially the way #OccupyNigeria dispersed in Lagos

  2. Governor Amaechi is totally on point.Nigerians are cowards

    1. Nigerians are no cowards but the appointed time set by GOD has not come,it will come soon like the thief in the night,I swear.

  3. We can’t be divided. We are too receptive & adapts to situations too quickly.
