Maggie Gyllenhaal is known for being a chameleon on the silver screen – capable of tackling the twisted fantasy of Donnie Darko to the rise of Victorian feminism in Hysteria.
But the 35-year-old did a good deal of shape shifting in her real life as she jumped from 1970s retro bell bottoms to a bizarre bohemian getup all in the span of a Tuesday afternoon in the Big Apple.
The fashion leaps, while apparently quite effortless for the actress, were more than odd in their choice and execution.
From drab… to drab: Maggie Gyllenhaal went casual in the day as she stepped out in New York on Tuesday, before changing into a bizarre eclectic outfit to attend a red carpet event later in the evening
First up Maggie donned denim bell bottoms and a hooded jumper by Aviator Nation in Venice, California – a shop specialising in retro design and 70s style clothing.

Maggie has made a name for herself with her bohemian fashion sense and the slightly offbeat choice in attire was par for the course for the often creative dresser.
But her second outfit of the day may have brought her unconventional aesthetic to a whole new level.
The mother-of-two donned a clothing collage for her evening out.
From the ground up the articles of clothing were difficult to categorize.
The Dark Knight actress sported suede knee high boots and black leggings.
Above the clunky footwear was a mid-length dress of patchwork patterned textiles, mismatched in both design and colour.
