#FuelSubsidyFraud: Ex PDP chairman’s son to stand trial in November

by Rachel Ogbu

Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of an Ikeja High Court has adjourned the trial of Mamman Nasir Ali, son of the former national chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmadu Ali till November 12, 2012.

Alongside Christian Taylor and their firm, Nasaman Oil Services, they are all facing charges of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretense, forgery and the use of false documents brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The counsel to the EFCC, Francis Usani, had informed the court at the resumed hearing of the matter, that the matter had earlier been adjourned till Tuesday for trial, but explained that the commission would not be able to continue with the trial because of what he termed “some pressing issues which would assist the court in the true dispensation of justice”.

“The prosecution intends to join one Seun Ogunbambo as defendant in the matter. This is because as at the time the charge was filed, information relating to Ogunbambo had not reached the EFCC,” Usani had told the court.

In response, defence counsel, Toyin Pinheiro (SAN) who did not object to the submission of the EFCC said, “We would wait for the amendment of the charge to be effected. Though I know the defendants have no case to answer.”

Mamman Nasir Ali as well as the other defendants pending their up coming court appearance will continue to enjoy the bail the court granted them after their arraignment.
