Gaining political favour – and more, in today’s news round-up with Cheta Nwanze

One thing that cannot be denied by anyone in this err, geographical expression, is that political appointments tend to be made with later gains in mind. No, it is not this particular government, they have only continued a trend that was actually started by the Brits, and has gone on ever since.

With that in mind, it is no shock that when our new Education babariga showed up at the office yesterday, the atilogwu dancers were on hand to welcome him. Well, the Hausa speaking version of atilogwu. Whether Mallam Shekarau can deliver the votes from his ward in 2015, is quite another matter. But I’d prefer him to stop the scarcity of polytechnic education first.

Speaking of scarcities, the new Big Bird, still rumoured, is going to be the chap who’d for years been seizing my driver’s license. When he takes over any time now, he will have to deal with a scarcity of the water that the iron birds drink, as well as other assorted problems such as the tendency of our iron bird operators to delay flights because they think their business is the same as that conducted by the NURTW.

But there’s indeed nothing to worry about when it comes to people who think a lot about what they do. People such as the big suit at the NCC, who, yesterday, with a very straight face, told us that each time I scream into my mobile, or cannot hear the geezer at the other end, I am actually having it better than the chappies in London and Dubai. You can stop laughing now…

Bits and Bobs

Another well intentioned Bill for the Nigerian worker has begun its trajectory to our legislative scrap heap.

For high-tailing it out of a holding cell, a court in Karu Abuja has asked Abdulaziz, 20, to come up with more ways of escape.

Akpan poked his nose into Udoh’s family business. Udoh in turn, stopped beating his wife for a moment, and removed Akpan’s neck.

15 years after Ismaila inherited Adija, it dawned on him that she flies at night.

I’m terribly sorry that I’ve not been doing this recently, I’m currently involved in a project, and have not had the time to filter through the responses to this morning tonic.
