#GoodNews: Nigeria’s daily oil production level reaches an all-time high

by Isi Esene

The ceasefire achieved in the Niger Delta due to the Amnesty programme initiated by late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua and maintained by his successor, President Goodluck Jonathan, is showing positive results as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) yesterday announced a spike in local crude oil production which reportedly reached an all-time high level of 2.7m barrels per day (mbpd).

The NNPC group managing director, Andrew Yakubu disclosed this in a message delivered on the NNPC Day at the Lagos International Trade Fair organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Lagos.

Yakubu who was represented by Isiaku Abdulahi, the managing director of National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO), said the NNPC has been able to maintain crude oil production above the budgeted production level of 2.48 mbpd.

According to Abdulahi: “Factors that are responsible for these desired outcomes include the sustained amnesty programme of the government and the re-entry into previously abandoned assets by NNPC.

“The ongoing efforts at increasing the nation’s crude oil reserves in the inland sedimentary basins, especially in the Chad Basin are also being sustained,’’ he said.

Yakubu continued his address saying the NNPC continues to sustain petroleum products supply nationwide “notwithstanding the occasional hiccups due to labour action and vandalism of crude oil and product pipelines’’.

He reportedly said that the recently concluded recruitment exercise in which the NNPC focused on enlisting the services of technical hands “exemplified our commitment to have the right set of staff”.

  1. Nobody is commenting and praising GEJ… if there's flooding somewhere, or any other bad thing happens, people will start calling him all sorts of names. In the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan, electricity and oil production both reach an all time high, and no one says "Thank You Mr President"
