Gunmen kill two policemen in Maiduguri this morning

Armed men stormed Pompomari, a community in Maiduguri metropolis, early hours of Monday killing four people including two police officers.

Residents of the area told PREMIUM TIMES that the attack lasted for about 2 hours and began at about 12:20 a.m.

One of those killed was the community leader of the area identified as Lawani. The two police officers, who were slaughtered with knives, were identified as Kolo, and Mustapha Rabiu.

The last victim, according to witnesses, was a resident identified as Zakary Musa.

Apart from killing the victims, the assailants also made away with valuables and property of residents.

The assailants were believed to be five, with three of them carrying guns while the two others had machete on them.

A resident said eight phones and several wallets were taken from his house where he lives with other family members and neighbours.

He wondered how the men could have attacked the area for about two hours without security operatives responding to their calls.

The spokesperson of the Joint Task Force in the Maiduguri, Sagir Musa, however, said he is unaware of the Pompomari attack.

Also, the police spokesperson for Borno State, Gideon Jubril, did not return calls made to his phone.
