“If he goes, he goes”… Nasarawa PDP gives lawmakers backing to boot out governor

Gov-Umaru-Tanko-Al-makura1The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has given the State House of Assembly (NSHA) its backing to go on with the impeachment proceedings against Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

A statement by the PDP caucus and elders after a meeting said; “The degree of external influence to scuttle this laudable process must and will be resisted by the PDP family in the state”. The statement was signed by 43 leaders of the party, including members of the National Assembly and Labaran Maku, the information minister as well as Abubakar Shamsudeen, the party’s National Auditor for North-Central.

The statement also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the accounts of the state government since the impeachment process is bothered on financial misappropriation.

In an Eight-point resolution, the meeting said any intimidation of the lawmakers to drop the process will be resisted because the process is constitutional and lawful, just as the statement warns of any external influence to unlawfully stop the process, to entrench the APC government in the state.

The meeting also called on security agencies to take notice of letter by Senator Abdullahi Adamu (PDP, Nasarawa-West), to the lawmakers which the PDP viewed as amounting to “a public incitement to violence and to mount an appropriate surveillance on this persons who will not stop at anything to cause disaffection and hatred among the peace loving people of Nasarawa State because his godfather and paymaster, Al-Makura is drowning.”

Governor Umaru Tanko stands accused of 16-counts of“gross misconduct”.

On Thursday, last week, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly decided that the impeachment notice on Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, be served through the media, since he had been elusive to be personally served the notice.

Contrary to reports, that the Governor had last week, met with President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the impeachment threat against him by the legislators, it was learned that the meeting was only aimed at giving the president progress report of the impeachment.
