by ‘Ifreke Inyang

Policemen interrupted an #OccupyNigeria protest that went from Alausa to Ojota from 10am. The small group of elder statesmen and women who were protesting on permission. The theme for the rally which was tweeted from the handles of @MrSleevesUp, @gbengasesan and @wildeji was #DefyTheDictator with a message to get the soldiers off the street.

The protests commenced at The State House where the elders and youth were received by the Deputy Speaker of National Assembly. Then they were confronted by the Police who said that they didn’t have a right to protest. Then things got ugly. They fired tear gas at them causing pandemonium. Soldiers also blocked all roads leading to Gani Fawehinmi Park. Apparently, an order from Governor Fashola.

Amidst the canisters in the air, the protesters left Alausa but promised to be back.
