Kerry Washington, Halle Berry, Kelly Rowland, more: SEE People’s 2013 Most Beautiful Women (PHOTOS)

Gwyneth Paltrow...

Gwyneth Paltrow: Not surprisingly, this year’s World’s Most Beautiful Woman feels most beautiful when she’s with family. “Around the house, I’m in jeans and a T-shirt. I don’t really wear makeup,” the actress tells PEOPLE of home life with husband Chris Martin and their two children, Apple, 8, and Moses, 7. And at 40, Paltrow says she feels better than ever thanks to the Tracy Anderson Method. “It makes me look younger and feel strong,” she says of the workout she swears by.

Kerry Washington: Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes initially thought Washington was “too pretty to be smart” for the role of Olivia Pope in the ABC drama. Clearly, she was proven wrong. Washington’s mix of toughness and beauty has attracted a dedicated following for the ABC political series, and made its 36-year-old star the first African-American female to helm her own primetime show in nearly four decades. And while her character is usually unflappable, Washington finds beauty in how her own life isn’t so. “I don’t have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect journey of my life,” she told Oprah.

Amanda Seyfried: “I want something different about me. I’d rather not be ordinary looking,” the Les Misérables actress told Allure. She’s anything but ordinary: With her perfect porcelain skin, wide eyes and lush locks, the 27-year-old is a true standout.

Zooey Deschanel: Growing up, the New Girl star idolized her mother’s looks. She’s “just a beautiful person and she has her own style,” the 33-year-old told PEOPLE last year. But ultimately you define your own beauty. “I can try to look like other people if I’m playing a role, but I like to serve my own sense of what I think is beautiful,” she explained. “You have to be true to yourself.”

JANE FONDA photo | Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda: When asked by Access Hollywood to reveal her beauty secrets, Fonda, 75, quipped, “Good genes and a lot of money.” But the icon truly believes what’s on the inside matters most. “If you feel good in your skin … it comes through your eyes and your face and your smile.”

JENNIFER LAWRENCE photo | Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence: Of all the things everyone’s come to love about the Oscar winner, one trait that tops the list is her healthy body image. When talking to Elle about her near-nude role in X-Men: First Class, the 22-year-old said, “I knew that if I was going to be naked in front of the world, I wanted to look like a woman and not a prepubescent 13-year-old boy. I’m so sick of people thinking that’s what [women are] supposed to look like.”

KELLY ROWLAND photo | Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland: The gorgeous Rowland didn’t always believe in her own beauty. “I went through a period where I didn’t … embrace just being a chocolate, lovely brown-skinned girl,” she told CNikky.com. After a pep talk from her mother and pal Beyoncé’s mom Tina, “a light went off,” the 32-year-old recalled. “Embrace everything that you are as a woman, even your flaws, too.”

HALLE BERRY photo | Halle Berry

Halle Berry: Thanks to that pregnancy glow, the 46-year-old is looking better than ever. But Berry feels particularly empowered by her short hair – though it doesn’t define her. “It’s just an accessory that I get to wear, like a handbag or shoes,” she told PEOPLE.

DREW BARRYMORE photo | Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore: “Happiness is the best makeup any woman can wear,” Barrymore, who recently launched a makeup line, told E!. “It’s all about the inside … that’s where the poison or the sunshine lays.” It’s probably all sunshine these days for the new mom, 38, who welcomed her “biggest crush,” daughter Olive, in October.

Pink isn’t exactly a conformist – especially when it comes to beauty ideals. “A ‘girl like me’ is someone who doesn’t rest on her looks, who has had people tell me from day one, ‘You’re never going to get magazine covers because you are not pretty enough.’ I’m totally comfortable with that,” she told Redbook. “I know my strong points: I work hard, I have talent, I’m funny and I’m a good person.”
