Lagos CP says no Boko Haram attack in the state

Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Umaru Manko, on Wednesday debunked the rumour that that Boko Haram had attacked some people in the state.

Briefing newsmen on the purported attack by the deadly Islamic sect. , Mr.Manko made the announcement stressing that Lagos was peaceful. Some people had been circulating Short Message Services (SMS), alleging that Boko Haram members had attacked some people on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway early on Wednesday. Read more….

Jonathan commends Buhari’s patriotic call for national unity against terrorism

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan commends General Muhammadu Buhari for his very statesman-like views on terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria as expressed in his article which was published by the media over the past two days. . Gunmen kill 17 in Taraba village raid

Gunmen killed at least 17 people in an attack on a village in eastern Nigeria where scores of people have died in ethnic violence in recent weeks, police said Wednesday. Residents of the predominantly Christian village in Taraba state put the death toll from Tuesday’s attack at 35 and said another 15 were still missing. Religiously-divided Taraba has suffered a wave of ethnic and sectarian violence pitting the mostly Christian ethnic Jukun against their Muslim Hausa and Fulani neighbours as they jostle for political control of the state. FG okays $152.12m for agriculture

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the acquisition of $152.12 million loan from the African Development Bank (ADB) towards boosting agricultural produces in the country. The Minister of Agriculture, Akinwunmi Adesina and Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting Presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. Adesina said the loan will be used to boost cultivation of rice, sorghum and cassava in 14 staple crop processing zones in the country. Read more….

ASUP Strike: Lecturers plan nationwide protest for April 29

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, on Wednesday, said it has concluded plans to stage a nationwide protest over what it described as government’s insensitivity to its lingering strike. The National President of the union, Chibuzo Asomugha, told journalists in Abuja that the protest would take place on April 29. This is coming on the heels of Kebbi State chapter of the union’s decision on Tuesday to call off the 10-month old strike. Read more
