Remi Osholake has long been known as the queen of Lagos when it comes to her beautiful designs via her label Remi Lagos.

Her trademark kaftans – most black – have made many a woman glow and the 51-year-old who passed on today was never caught wearing anything but black.

Trained abroad at the East Croydon School of Art & Design, Chelsea School of Art & Design and Inchbald School of Art & Interior Design, the last two decades-and-a-half have seen ‘Remi show the expanding creative phases of RemiLagos on prestigious fashion runways in Europe, the United States of America and Africa.

A statement from her friends issued today pays tribute to her style:

“Oluremi Osholake, the remarkable and creative vision behind pioneer fashion house Remi Lagos, has died today, November 3,  2012 at noon at the Harley Street Clinic, London, after a battle with uterine cancer. She was 51.

“A creative, funny, remarkable and joyous woman, Remi Osholake’s designs have been showcased on runways across the world. Her philosophy was inspired by the concept of the perfect fit. As many can testify, her pieces have always embodied this ideal. A Remi Lagos creation is all about the silhouette, cut, fabric and the most beautiful finish.”

Today, we pay tribute to an iconic woman with a run-through of some of her amazing work:
