A 35 years old man in Ekiti State was sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing a goat.

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday told Ismaila Jimoh his sentence will be with hard labour or an option of fine of N10, 000 which must be compulsorily deposited with the court within a stipulated period of time.

According to reports, Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused committed stole the goat, valued at N10, 000 on February 5, 2012 at Bakare Avenue, off Federal Housing Road in Ado-Ekiti.

The goat was later repossessed from the convict but Olasunkanmi insisted that the offence violated section 383 and was punishable under section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 30 Vol.11 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria.

Even though Jimoh had pleaded guilty, the Chief Magistrate, Simeon Ojo, subsequently, handed him the sentence.

The prosecutor applauded the court for its patience and quick trial and the comprehensive judgment delivered.
