Momma’s boy: Woman, 81, poisons her son’s girlfriend because she was jealous of their relationship

An 81-year-old woman was today found guilty of poisoning her son’s girlfriends with antifreeze because she was jealous of their relationship.

Helen Galli, from Pennsylvania, was found guilty of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment for lacing Dawn Simyan’s fruit juice with the poison in March 2010 because she did not want the younger woman coming between her and her son.

Simyan was hospitalized for three weeks after the incident. The defense accused the 43-year-old of poisoning herself so she could get attention from Victor Galli and that she was the one who was jealous of his relationship with his mother.

Prosecutors said it was a case of a triangle of jealousy and a number of names and allegations were slung around the courtroom during the trial.

According to WNEP16, the 81-year-old was called evil and controlling and her son Victor referred to as a ‘momma’s boy’, while Simyan was accused of being a ‘gold digger’ and ‘perpetually drunk’.

Victor Galli had just received a large sum of money after securing gas leases for property in Wyoming County.

Prosecutors said Simyan did not want Galli getting any of the million-dollar fortune.

The court also heard that when the poisoning didn’t work, the grandmother asked her neighbor repeatedly if she knew someone who could blow up Simyan’s car.

Galli will remain free on bail until she is sentenced on December 5.

More than 20 years ago, Galli pleaded guilty to arson charges, after she convinced her grandchildren to burn down their parents’ house.

Galli was sentenced to house arrest in that case.
