Nigeria continues to get more joy in weightlifting at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, after Maryam Usman clinched gold in the women’s over 75kg category.
It took a huge slice of luck for her to emerge tops, as defending champion Ele Opeloge of Samoa spilt her attempted 161kg clean and jerk, which would have been a new Commonwealth Games record.
Usman, 23, finished with an overall score of 280 kilogrammes, ahead of Opeloge. Tracey Lambrechs from New Zealand took bronze.
