Odd: Woman breaks into lawyer’s house, steals wig, gowns, and underwear

A 34-year-old woman, Elizabeth Akinagbe, was yesterday sentenced to 3 months imprisonment by a Kubwa Magistrate’s Court for stealing.

She was charged on three counts of house-breaking, theft, and criminal force and was found guilty on each of the three counts leveled against her.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Mohammed said the sentencing will run concurrently but gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.

Prosecutor Lucas Ephraim had told the court that the convict broke into the house of Victor Oliseh, a lawyer, and stole his wig and gown. The incident happened on April 19 at Jayi village, Arab Road in Kubwa.

Ephraim said the convict stole female underwear and family photographs, adding that the offences contravened Sections 346, 287 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Akinagbe reportedly pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

She said she was formerly married to Oliseh. According to her, “I had three children for him, but since our separation, he has denied me access to the children.

“I took his wig and gown to compel him to allow me see my children, but I didn’t take any other item from his house,’’ she said.

Oliseh countered her argument saying Akinagbe abandoned the children with him.

He said, “When she abandoned the children, I had no other choice than to take them to my people in the village for adequate care.”
