Okonjo-Iweala’s mother will be rescued within 24 hours – Gov. Uduaghan

The governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan, has assured the public that Professor Kamene Okonjo, the kidnapped mother of the Finance Minister and coordinator of the economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will be rescued in 24 hours.

He said he has given the immediate order for her release.

Uduaghan who was responding to questions on ChannelsTV breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, said, “I have given the orders (Professor Mrs. Kamene Okonjo), must be fished out within the next 24 hours.”

The governor reportedly refused to discuss any further details on the kidnap and rescue mission saying, “I don’t want to discuss about the kidnap because of the nature of the person involved.

“Let’s just leave it at that”, he concluded.

The mother of the coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance Professor Kamene Okonjo, was abducted by unknown gunmen from her home in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta state at about midday on Sunday.

The 82-year-old monarch’s wife was said to have been abducted at about 1.47PM by a gang of armed men who seized her at the gate of the palace at Ogbe-ofu.

  1. Giving orders to who – the kidnappers or to the police. Does this order mean that police know the folks behind the kidnap or that the Guv himself knows them and that is why he has ordered them. And why he didnt give such order when Hope Eghagha was kidnapped? Frankly, I am amused!
