kenneth-omeruo-world-cup-2014Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has expressed optimism over the Super Eagles ability to defend the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy won last year in South Africa.

The Middlesbrough player believes Nigeria, being AFCON defending champion, can maintain its hold on the trophy at the 2015 edition of the tournament with the help of quality players and coaches.

“We can defend the trophy.

I believe that our coaching crew is strong enough and also they will invite good and quality players for the qualifiers,” Omeruo said.

Qualification for next year’s competition which will be hosted by Morocco from January 17th to February 8th, 2015, will commence in the first week of September with all six matches played over two-and-half months between September and November.

Nigeria is in Group A alongside South Africa, Sudan, and one of these four: Namibia, Congo, Libya and Rwanda

Morocco, being the host country, qualifies for the tournament automatically.
