These abductors are men but they are not men like your papa. They are terrorists, the worst of creation. They kill, rape and maim, and they do it as often as they blink.

Dear Daughter,
Today is May 6 2014. Nigeria (perhaps your future nationality) is on fire. I know you’re up there with God waiting for when my sperm would summon you to the world but I beg you, don’t come yet. I am a very selfish guy that might fall like King David did beholding the skins of Bathsheba. If I do fall I plead that you forgive your papa and play a while longer in God’s nursery. This letter is necessary in case I summon you before it’s time. The present Nigeria that your papa lives in is not for you.
From social media to online media to print media to street media to whatever media, Nigeria is on fire and the conflagration has been eerily deafening. It defies all logic that in a state currently under emergency rule and patrolled by heavily armed security forces, 270+ girls, your future country women, were abducted and taken away by terrorists without any resistance or rescue mission weeks after the abduction.
These abductors are men but they are not men like your papa. They are terrorists, the worst of creation. They kill, rape and maim, and they do it as often as they blink. They are sworn enemies of humanity without conscience or human sense. They call themselves Boko Haram and their violence bestrides Nigeria. They have turned three states to failed states and their destruction is the new face of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. I do not want you to be born into this chaos.
Nigeria is by nature a country of reality haters. It is evident that if this violence is not nipped in the bud soon, it will overflow to the south where your papa lives and there will be nowhere for anyone to hide. I do not want you kidnapped and raped and maimed.
The current president of Nigeria and chief security officer of the nation has no clue. He only knows that ‘America will know’. He went on TV and for hours sounded too unpresidential to be president. We read him for who he is without his attack dogs like Abati, Okupe or the sacked Gulak who are experts in black = white equations. Our president showed me I need to find a new country or wait for a reform of the present one before you can be born.
I love you and can’t wait to hold you in my arms but you must wait till Nigeria becomes a country where 270+ girls do not get kidnapped, where the security forces know how to secure the lives of the citizenry, where the First Lady doesn’t order the arrest of protesters protesting the abduction of 270+ girls, where it is once again safe to dream, I plead that you wait. Or wait till I find another country for you to be born in.
Your Loving Papa,
Temitope Write Isedowo
