Members of staff of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), this morning staged the largest demonstration the institution has ever witnessed since its inception.
Both the academic and non-academic staff of the university converged on the campus for a peaceful demonstration to demand the reinstatement of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Emeka Enejere, who was reported to have been suspended.
Enejere’s was suspended by the Federal Government yesterday, after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), called of their 5 months nationwide strike.
Vanguard reports:
They chanted songs saying it was the Vice Chancellor, Prof Bartho Okolo, instead, who should be sacked.
After marching for half of the day and some members of staff addressed the press at the Freedom Square, they however, dispersed, promising to return for daily demonstrations until the Council Chairman was reinstated and other ills of the university which they alleged originated by Prof Okolo were corrected.
A professor told newsmen that “the Federal Government would have to choose between only one man (Okolo) or working with all of us.”
Bartho Okolo Must Go. Solidarity for ever.
