#RacismInAmerica: Black school boy gets invited to “KKK birthday party” in his honour

Tahiyyah Howard, the mother of Justin Howard, a 7th grade student at Tomball Junior High School, is sick of her son being bullied because of his race. White students invited him to a KKK birthday party in his honor.

It is almost unfathomable to imagine African-American youth enduring the same blatant humiliation and disrespect that their ancestors endured up until the late 60′s, but sadly, they are. Justin Howard, a 7th grade African-American student at Tomball Junior High School in Tomball, Texas, was recently invited to a “KKK birthday party” in his honor.

This is one of many instances of racism the young boy has encountered and his mother, Tahiyyah Howard, is fed up. ”I’m just, really, you know, sick of it,” Howard told a local news station. “A girl wrote on the board ‘Black Justin’ and my son was really upset.” The latest incident involving the fake KKK birthday invitation, is the most egregious example of racism the child has experienced.  ”[They] put it on his desk and said that he was invited to a KKK birthday party with lots of fun and games,” said Howard, who has not sought action outside the school.

Fortunately, Justin did not see the note because a teacher intercepted and reported the incident. School officials confirmed the incident and released a statement indicating that the two perpetrators had been disciplined. ”Two Tomball Junior High students left a note for a third student that referenced the Ku Klux Klan,” school district spokeswoman Staci Stanfield said in a statement. “The teacher picked up the note before the intended recipient could see it. The campus administrators were notified and took proactive steps by contacting the parent of the intended recipient to inform the parent of the situationThe behavior of the two students who wrote the note is not acceptable. Both students who left the note were disciplined according to the District’s Student Code of Conduct,” she added.

The district can not legally disclosed the level of discipline the two students received. Howard is hoping the kids will learn a valuable lesson about their hurtful actions. “They [the students] need to know that there are consequences and not just one-day suspension where they can go home and play video games all day. I think the parents should teach their kids that being racist or bullying is not OK, no matter if you’re playing around or just being mean. It’s just not OK,” she told local news reporters.
