Sandra Nwadi: Let me tell you about my first kiss (Poetry)

by Sandra Nwadi
That first kiss.
I do remember candidly,
The exact feelings that welled up.
The Twittering, chirruping
Butterflies.
My heart hammering.
My heart doing a beatbox boom.
Sometimes, it still does.

All emotions bottled up inside.
I struggled to balance my thoughts.
It worked but deep down nagging,
It rose and questions floated up.

He loves me? He loves not?
Is he the one? Or is he not?
Is this love? Is this love finally?
Is he flattery? Is this for real?

Now, don’t be fooled
I still knew the truths about life
And the  fantasies of Alice’s wonderland!
No denials in my heart either.
But I’m a  girl… baby in love.
Baby steps, stepping down the love stairs.
You can’t stop the fate of magic.
Those dreams of being whisked away.
He stole-ripped, bits of my heart each day.
Midnight talks as long as forever.
Who should hang up first.
I’ll say I think I’m falling…
He’ll say he’s sure love never dies!

Our laughters, giggles, flirtings.
Talks on everything and nothing.
Looking in to each other’s eyes
So  stuck like glue in there.

The lip moment finally comes.
Hearts racing like crazy.
Standing so close as I hoped,
We both whispered what I won’t tell.

We both look back now.
He’s got good memories of me.
I’ve got good memories of him.

It fades.
Let it fade on.
Fade, fade flow on.
Now, I like some others.
Move, move dance on.

So, was it love?
Is it usually love?
I think not.
The baby days do come to an end
Often times
But there’s nothing like that first kiss
If you can remember
Or not!
