A traditional ruler in Kaduna State and husband of a serving senator, Sa’ad Usman, is lying critically ill in an undisclosed hospital, following injuries he sustained in a clash between Fulani herdsmen and Gbagyi farmers in the state.

The clash had reportedly taken place in Jere town, of Kagarko Local Government area of Kaduna State.

Sa’ad, who is a former Secretary to the Kaduna State government, is husband to the former Minister of Finance, and Senator representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District.

According to The Nation report:

It was learnt last night that the clash between the Fulanis and Gbagyis was as a result of disagreement over land.

Although the number of casualties was not immediately available, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Adenaike, confirmed the attack, saying that there was pandemonium in the area, adding, however, that his men were on top of the situation.

The traditional ruler was said to have been seriously injured when he was mediating over the land dispute in his domain.

Some of his palace guards were also said to have sustained injuries, while trying to protect the traditional ruler from being attack during the fracas.

Usman was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital under heavy security for medical attention.

The police, however, denied rumours that the traditional ruler was beheaded by the rampaging groups and the entire town set on fire.

His wife, Senator Nenadi, could not be reached for comments as her mobile phone was not responding to calls.
