She told you! ‘No, I’m not dating DBanj,’ Genevieve says in exclusive Y! interview

by Ifeanyi Dike Jr

A few weekends ago, while most were letting off steam from the hectic work week, this writer spent a few hours with editor-in-chief, Y! Magazine, Chude Jideonwo at the swanky Fourpoints Hotel, Lekki chatting with the awe-inspiring Genevieve Nnaji for a feature interview in the upcoming edition of the magazine.

We know how much you love dirt, er, news, so we’ve decided to treat to you a snippet from our poolside conversation; possibly answer the one question you’ve been dying to ask Genny! Chude went straight for the kill and Genevieve gave as good as she got – no resistance or diva-like answers.

“Not withstanding how awkward this question might be, I’d be a bad journalist not to ask. So here it goes: Are you dating D’banj?”

In a subtle, yet assuring way Genevieve replied: “No, I am not dating D’banj. He and I are very good friends. I respect his work and influence on Nigerian entertainment. As far as I’m concerned, he is the best entertainer there is. He is amazing. But no, we aren’t dating. And it’s not like it’s a bad thing or anything – I’m single, he is single so hey! Why can’t we? But it’s just not true”.

“People even refer to you guys as ‘Brangelina’ or ‘Jay Z and Beyonce’,” Chude added.

“Well I think, people are sort of expecting or maybe hoping that we’d hook up. And I don’t think that’s a bad thing. To me, it’s a sign that people want the best, they want me to be settled and happy. This might explain why that rumour was on overdrive.”

“So do you guys talk about it, yourself and D’banj I mean?”

“Yes we do. We laugh about it”….

In the exclusive interview she also spoke about her journey through life, Nollywood and her strange relationship with Mercy Johnson. She addressed controversial issues such as the highly acclaimed Bond-girl role, a certain viral picture of her ‘daughter’, the reason she allegedly snubbed the April elections till the very last minute and what it really was that made her endorse President Goodluck Jonathan. She also shared the one question she asks young girls who want to walk in her shoes. All this and more in an interview you cannot to miss in the upcoming issue of Y! Magazine!

We’ll keep you posted.
