Jennifer Hudson is reportedly heading back to “American Idol” as a judge for season 13.
The “Dreamgirls” star has inked a deal to shore up the judges’ table for season 13 of “Idol,” according to E! News.
Hudson, 31, was a finalist on the third season of the singing competition, landing in seventh place. Her post-“Idol” work has netted her score of accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Her return to “American Idol” is part of the producers’ “super-star alum” theme for the next season, an effort to gain back some of the show’s audience. This month’s season finale lost 7 million viewers compared to last year’s.
According to E! News, Kelly Clarkson is another former ‘Idol’ contestant who may become a judge.
“Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson is also close to joining the panel, E! News reports. The final spot will possibly be filled by either Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken.
“It’s ‘Idol’ alums bringing in the next generation,” a source at Fox told E!News.
If hired, Hudson and her fellow “Idol” alums will replace this year’s judges Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban, none of whom will be returning for the next season.
