As the Anambra governorship election takes place today, security formations in the state have been put on high alert to combat any form of disorderliness during the voting exercise.

Armoured Personnel Carriers and police helicopters have been stationed in strategic areas of the state to be immediately deployed in troubled areas if the need arises. This has become necessary due to the potentially volatile nature of the state considering the strength and influence of the candidates in the elections namely Dr Chris Ngige, All Progressives Congress (APC); Chief Willie Obiano, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA); Comrade Tony Nwoye, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ifeanyi Ubah, Labour Party (LP).

Obiano and Nwoye are from Anambra North, while Ngige and Ubah are from the Central and South respectively.

There are a total of 1, 784, 536 registered voters in Anambra which is presently governed by Peter Obi of the PDP.
