To mark the president’s first year in office a press release titled Major Achievements of the Jonathan Administration listed over 100 accomplishments by his administration in various sectors of the economy. Probably in a bid to outdo the president’s list, the Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun announced his plan to construct the first pedestrian bridge in Abeokuta, the state capital, not just that but the governor added that the bridge will be air-conditioned.

It has been reported that the bridge will be built around the famous Ibara roundabout of the ancient town, and is expected to reduce traffic congestion and accidents on the ever busy junction.

Amosun who made the announcement on Monday while commissioning the 2.5km Ibara-Ita-Eko road in Abeokuta worth N1.3bn said the on-going construction projects in the state are part of his administration’s “urban renewal programme”.

He also made the very impressive announcement that the bids for 18 additional roads that will cover about 147.5km have been opened. Some of the roads include: Somorin-Ajebo, 5.6km (4lane); Ikangba-Obalende-Lagos Garage-Oke Owa-Ilese, 20km (4 lane); Ilara-Ijowun-Eggua-Oja Odan-Ilase, 60km (2 lane); Sagamu/Benin Expressway Junction-Remo Secondary School roundabout-Isale Oko-Akarigbo street-Sabo-Oba Erinwole junction and 7km (4 lane).
