Live Theatre on Sunday is proud to announce her production for the month of February, Akanni and His Proposal, a contemporary adaptation of Efua Sutherland’s The Marriage of Anansewa. Akanni and His Proposal is the tale of Akanni a.k.a Baba Sewa, a disgruntled pensioner who has hatched a brilliant plan. A victim of Nigerian politics; he decides to do a little politicking himself but this is all dependent on his daughter’s acceptance of the proposal; and if he can convince one of the state’s thieving politicians to marry his teenage ambitious daughter – Sewa, then there will be a change in his life. The play is a story of greed, cunning and tall dreams. It is a social commentary on the Nigerian life, religion and politics with a hint of comedy.

The play is written by Adelarin Awotedu, @abiikeblogger and directed by Adeoye Salem Shobakin and produced by Adenugba Oluwanishola for Davidhouse Multimedia Limited. The production features Lawal Yewande who plays Shoshanna in the MNET’s hit series ‘Tinsel’ and Owumi Ugbeye who plays ‘Bikiya’ in MTV’s Shuga Series 3, Opeyemi Dada, Adebola Ogunshina and a host of others.

The show is slated for Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Unity Centre, 28B, Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Ikeja Lagos opposite Jevinik Restaurant by 4pm and 5.30pm. The shows are FREE. Just SMS ‘SEAT’ to 08108156335 to reserve your seats.

Live Theatre on Sunday is an avant-garde theatre project inspired by the resurgence in the appreciation of the theatre arts and started in 2008. The objective of the project is present spectacular stage play performances on topical issues thus contribute significantly to the revival of this art form in our society. The series has featured notable talents in the Nigerian entertainment industry such as Yinka Davies, Gabriel Afolayan, Matse Uwatse, Igos, Omonor Somolu, Ego etc in many productions including J.P. Clark’s ‘Song of a Goat’, ‘The Wives’ Revolt’, Ola Rotimi’s ‘Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again’, ‘Grip Am’, Man Talk Woman Talk’ and most recently, Zulu Sofola’s ‘The Wizard of Law’ and Wole Soyinka’s ‘The Trials of Brother Jero’ and Adebola Ogunshina’s Konkortion.
