Some 200 families have been rendered homeless at Hayin Gada village in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa, following a downpour.
The District Head of Hayin Gada, Mr Bosoro Tambari, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday that the incident occurred on Wednesday.
“The flood has sacked over 200 families from their respective houses and about 70 houses have either been submerged or washed away by the disaster.
“And over 2,000 farms of maize, rice, groundnut and vegetables were also totally submerged by water,” Tambari said.
He said the affected people had relocated to schools and churches and were living in poor conditions.
” Our people that were affected by the flood and relocated to schools and churches are suffering.
“In fact, we are afraid of a cholera outbreak due to the contaminated environment in which they are living,” he said.
He appealed to the State and Federal Governments to come to the aid of the victims urgently.
The Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Shadrack Barub, confirmed the development and said the agency was making efforts to “reach out” to the affected people.
