Tragic: Chika Egbo, acid bath victim dies

Chika Egbo, the 25-year-old lady who was bathed in acid by her estranged lover is dead.

She died on Thursday morning at the Burns Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where she had since been on admission.

The student of the Enugu State College of Education was allegedly bathed in acid by David Suleiman at Bakare Street, Ikotun, Lagos, on November 5, 2012, following Chika’s refusal to allow him access to their only child.

According to reports, Egbo fell into a coma around 11pm on Wednesday night and was placed on a life-support machine before she finally gave up the ghost around 1:00am, Thursday morning.

Suleiman who was arrested by the police after the alleged crime has been transferred from the Ikotun Police Station to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba.

He was later charged at an Ebute-Meta Magistrate court where he was  arraigned on two counts charge of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm.

Magistrate O. Olatunji who presided over the case granted him bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate in his ruling stated that the sureties must be blood relations and must present evidence of tax clearance.
