US posts $18m bounty for Nigeria’s Boko Haram

The United States posted $18 million in rewards Friday for the capture of four African militants involved in the kidnapping of foreigners and attacks on Western targets.

Some $5 million each was offered for a former member of Nigeria’s Boko Haram and two founding leaders of the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO) based in the Maghreb region.

A fourth reward of $3 million was set for an Egyptian extremist who has plotted against the US, the State Department said. Read more….

North’s only woman Emir dies

The female emir of Arnado Debbo, Gangwun Astadikko Buba Dimgyeb, Ma-Astadikko Buba, died in her residence on June 8, 2014.

Buba was the paramount ruler of Ganye Kingdom and the woman emir of Arnado Debbo, as well as the only village head of the fairer sex in Adamawa State, was said to be the “seventh woman ruler after Gangwum Subsanin blazed the trail 250 years ago”. Read more….

Lagos govt advises residents not to panic over intensity of rains

The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment on Friday advised residents not to panic over the high intensity of rains.

This was contained in a statement signed by  Fola Adeyemi, the Public Relations Officer in the ministry.

It said that the rains had slowed down the percolation rate of storm water generated and the saturation level of the soil.

The statement said that the advice was being offered by the state Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, due to the heavy rainfall across the state in the last four weeks. Read more….

Fashola’s Aide resigns 

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola on Friday accepted the resignation of his Special Adviser on Central Business District, Mrs. Aderinola Disu, and approved her replacement with the Managing Director of the Lagos State Number Plate Production Agency, Mr Folorunsho Folarin-Coker.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Hakeem Bello, the resignation followed months of consultation during which Mrs Disu explained the need for her to devote her full time to family commitments after which Governor Fashola reluctantly accepted her decision to step down from the State Executive Council. One killed as fresh fracas breaks out in Ajegunle

Fear gripped residents of the densely populated Ajegunle area, Lagos State, Weekend, following a fracas that broke out at boundary bus stop. T

he incident which Crime guard gathered that the street urchins from both streets engaged each other in hot argument which degenerated into fierce fighting during which dangerous weapons were freely used and during the process,many people were wounded and properties destroyed.

The body of an unknown middle-aged man was discovered later at the scene of the fracas. Read more….
