“You will name our sponsors in court” – Dino Melaye threatens to sue Okonjo-Iweala

Dino Melaye is not taking things lightly with the co-ordinating minister of the economy and minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as he is threatening to sue the Harvard-trained economist for libel.

The former House of Representatives member earlier today reacted on Twitter over allegations of corruption leveled against him by the minister.

He tweeted: “I will sue Okonjo for Libel, she will have to mention those she claimed sponsored us.

“We asked why will (minister of) finance pay oil thieves without due diligence and scrutiny, so how does this relate to sponsorship from oil thieves?”

He accused Okonjo-Iweala of pursuing anti-people economic policies saying, “Okonjo policies is aiding the genocide of Nigerians daily, in Rwanda the Hutus used matches and guns, in Nigeria Dam, Orubebe use corruption.”

Okonjo-Iweala had in a statement released yesterday described Melaye as “disreputable, having no honour and decency”. He was accused of carrying out a protest sponsored by oil barons indicted and are currently being investigated and prosecuted for subsidy fraud.

According to the statement: “Nigerians are, of course, not deceived by the antics of Mr Melaye who has not known pedigree as a civil society activist or even a reputation for honour or common decency.

“Curiously, Mr. Melaye and his cohorts, in making their frivolous allegations, did not mention the fact that the Federal Ministry of Finance under the leadership of Dr Okonjo-Iweala took the unprecedented step of publishing the names of 25 companies which were investigated by the Aig-Imoukhuede Committee for various breaches of the subsidy regime,” the statement read.

The Kogi-born politician on Wednesday piloted a group of protesters under the aegis of Anti-Corruption Network (ACN) to the finance ministry in Abuja, calling for the resignation of Okonjo-Iweala.

They blamed her of introducing bad economic policies and wrong subsidy payments, an accusation the Minister strongly denies.
