by Isi Esene

At least 20 students have been reported shot in Mubi, Adamawa State by unknown gunmen. The incident reportedly happened late Monday night between the 10pm and 11am hour.

A source who preferred to remain anonymous said the students were killed at one of the off-campus hostels of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi.

According to a lecturer in the institution, the students were rounded up, made to line up and then asked for their names. Some were killed, others were spared. It is not clear why some were spared, and some of those killed were Muslims.

There is palpable fear in the town after the killing, and many students have started leaving to avoid being caught-up in the expected showdown between the Boko Haram insurgents and the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) who are determined to root out the terrorists.

The JTF recently conducted a raid which saw the arrest of hundreds OF suspected Boko Haram members and the killing of one of the group’s top commanders.

There has been no official confirmation of the Mubi, Adamawa attack.
