Bauchi church bomb update: Suicide bomber kills six, several others critically injured

by Isi Esene

There are reports that the bomb which exploded earlier today at the St. John’s Catholic Cathedral in the Batyan Gari area of Bauchi was caused by a lone suicide bomber who reportedly rammed  an Opel Vectra into the gates of the church when he was refused entry into the church premises.

The impact of the bomb was reported to have taken the lives of six people instantly and injured many others who were at the church for the Catholic church’s morning mass.

The Opel Vectra model which is suspected to have been rigged with powerful explosives is widely used as taxi cabs in Bauchi, the capital of Bauchi State.

An emergency official who participated in search and rescue operations said he counted six dead bodies. But he also indicated that many of the injuries were so severe that he expected the number of the dead to increase sharply.

Many observers suspect the Islamic militant group, Boko Haram, for the attack but no group has come out to claim responsibility for the Bauchi church attack yet.

  1. This method of showing whatever agitation is very immature and cowardly & I wonder what such people intend to achieve. Why not say outrightly what you (these bombers) want. Or is it just to kill people especially Christians. You men without conscious and & good objective, you are only making things worse, even for your selves
