Gunmen attack VP Sambo’s house in Zaria

A cobbler has been shot dead in an attack today on a house purported to be that of the vice president, Arch. Namadi Sambo in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The building which was said to have razed by irate youths in the wake of the 2011 elections won by the PDP candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, is still in the process of reconstruction.

According to Punch Newspaper reports, three men on a motorcycle were reported to have opened fire on the security personnel stationed at the house fatally shooting a cobbler who was said to have been attending to one of the policemen guarding the building.

A representative of the state’s police spokesman, Abdulrazaq Balteh, confirmed the death of the cobbler and added that the injured policemen have been taken to the Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Zaria.

He said the cobbler died in the exchange of fire between the policemen and the attackers.

Mr. Abdulrazaq said, “The three gunmen came on a motor bike and opened fire on the police guards at the VP’s home at Baba Ahmed Road, Tudun Wada, Zaria.”
He also said, “The mobile policemen on guard and the assailants were engaged in a gun battle around 11:30am. However, a cobbler was hit by a stray bullet who died instantly.”
No arrests have been made.
