Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai on Friday said he stands to lose a lot from writing the controversial book The Accidental Public Servant.

El-Rufai made this known through his speech at the presentation of the book in Canada, which he couldn’t attend due to his inability to obtain a visa in time.

“I have nothing to gain by expressing honest opinions about policies, processes and persons. Indeed, personally, I stand to lose a lot from writing this book. I have written it because I believe it will contribute in some way to make our leaders more accountable and our country to function even slightly better,” he said

“I hope you will appreciate the role that destiny has cut out for Nigerians in Diaspora in the struggle to salvage our nation from incompetent governance, insecurity, corruption and a pervasive culture of impunity,” he added.

In the speech which was read to the audience, el-Rufai appealed to the people to actually read the book rather than be satisfied with reviews being done by others who may not have read the book themselves. He stated that he hopes to finance the education of his children through proceeds from the book.

The All Progressives Congress chieftain said he hopes reading the book will convince the readers that politics and public service is too important a responsibility to be left to “the likes of a governor who is now enjoying free accommodation provided by Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain and Canada!”

Your guess is as good as ours on who the former FCT minister is referring to.
