Rivers impeachment crisis: Jonathan is too big to fight Amaechi – Presidency

Doyin Okupe

by Akan Ido

The  Presidency today denied the involvement of President Goodluck Jonathan in the crisis rocking the River State House of Assembly saying the call fro his removal by the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria is flawed.

This position was made known by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, who said it was unfair to link Jonathan to the chaos currently happening in Rivers state.

Okupe stressed that Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi was too small politically for President Jonathan to fight with, a statement which many saw as a veiled reference to how the governor described the Minister of State for Health, Nyesom Wike when he was asked about the rift between them.

Five members of the House of Assembly yesterday challenged the authority of the current leadership resulting in a violent reaction by the pro-Amaechi members. Not less than four of the members of the House were injured in the ensuing chaos.

  1. The Rivers State Assembly shuld impeach and remove the 5 members of Assembky that caused chaos in the house. Snd tgey shuld be banned from politics in Nigeria. Thats the only way I will knw Jonathan is a big president.

  2. To me amechi is the person to big for jonathan, former president obasanjo made a huge mistake to make jonathan the president. He does not worth more than a councillior

  3. Pls do these people have children? Cos I wonder what kind of example they r setting for them n d youths of this country by extension. D future of this country is in………………..hands. Pls fill in d gap
