A former student of Covenant University, Otta, Ogun State has dragged the institution to court challenging his expulsion from institution for watching watching pornographic material and listening to secular music on his laptop.

The student, Vwamhi Longji Felix, who was a 400-Level student in the school’s Communications Technology department, stated that his parents had spent not less than N10 million on his school fees and other expenses.

Felix was made to face the school’s disciplinary committee and subsequently expelled on the 23rd of November, 2012.

Segun Fatoki, who represented Felix claimed his client was not given a fair hearing  before he was expelled and the act contravened Section 44 of Chapter 4 of the institution’s student handbook.

However, in a counter-affidavit from the defendant, the school stated that students are not allowed to publicly display or be in possession of pornographic films or photographs, exploring or viewing pornographic websites on the internet.

The counter-affidavit went on to state that instructions in the school handbook is clearly again the possession of unholy films and home video or circular music tapes, either stored or directly in the computer or listen through the use of computer radio or any other electronic device when on campus during an academic session.

The presiding judge, Justice Mobolaji Ojo of Ogun State High Court reportedly said, “A youth must live like a youth and an adolescent must live like an adolescent. If all of the traits of a youth are not allowed to be exhibited at the right time, it would be done at the wrong time.”

The case was later adjourned to March 23, 2013 to be revisited.

  1. Covenant university! what happened to forgiveness and second chance? Expelling a 400level student for ”allegedely” wathching or in possession of pornographic materials in this day and age is unheard of. Is it a first time offender or was found guilty before now? Do your part of giving these kids an aducation having collected their monies as we can’t all be “Bishops”.

  2. The publisher of this mail is mischievous as the word “alleged” is deliberately absent in this caption. Note that the matter in question touching on fair “hearing” is subjudiced.we must not b hoodwinked by people who say “do what i say and not what i do”. The version in the Tribune and Vanguard Newspaper of 28/2/13, puts d story in a better non sided perspective. The counter affidavit tendered by d school in court clearly tell that not everyone will inherit d kingdom of God. A lie is a temporary help in time of trouble but a permanent record before God.

  3. the jugde was right anyway…but if as a student you saw those rules and regulations and agreed to abide by them as a student, why will you later go against it. Its the school law, if you know you wont be able to abide by it, then do not go to such school. Simple !

  4. Nigeria YouthCouncil oyedepo should understand that youths must always be youths I started reading playboy in secondary school, it never disturbed my university admission I still came out tops, now am a father I don't want to police my kids like a dog, neither do I want churches to do it for me…. the best advise my dad gave me on girls was never harsh like my mum, he said becareful now with girls they can take your mind off reading…. he now handed me penicillin as a gift to be using regularly in school, I shared so many things in my dad we talk about my problems and successes later my girl friends not sex friends where always around of my dad, he raised 10 boys two girls…. let oyedepo not deceived himself in the garden of boys as grasses growing with beautiful girls like flowers in the university passions will run riot…. so keep that in mind pastor… university is not church, you would had made the university free from your church to avoid these scandals too late sir, you cannot event stop this from your private jet.
