From the Bloggers: On subsidies, strikes and scandals.

by Wilfred Okiche

It was all about the removal of fuel subsidy and it’s resultant effects this week. The blogosphere was alive and buzzing and there were screaming headlines like; ‘New Year shock’, ‘So Goodluck is daring Nigerians’, ‘GEJ disrupts protesters’, ‘Presidential lies’, ‘Showdown- Government vs. the suffering masses.’’

Also, the very upsetting news from the north on Boko Haram’s 3-day ultimatum to Christians to vacate the north or face the repercussions really rocked cyberspace. ‘Gist express’ was up top of the story.

Even ‘Olamild Entertainment’ joined the fray and presented a short film on fuel subsidy by Capital Dreams pictures.

Cameroonian football star, Samuel Eto recently launched his own mobile network in his home country and ‘Obehi Okoawo’s blog’ briefly touched on this before returning to the big story of the week, the looming strike planned for Monday by the NLC.

Despite the mayhem, ‘Bola Akinboade’s blog’ found something to be cheerful about posting pictures of singer/producer, J Martins’ traditional wedding. There were also wedding bells from the Igbokwe household as Obiora, the first son of the late lady of songs, Christy Essien Igbokwe married his heart throb. ‘Chilee Agunanna’s blog’ had a report of the events.

In other matters, ‘that 1960chick’ put up pictures from Roberto Cavalli and Vogue Italia Editor-in-Chief, Franca Sozanni’s visit to Lagos. Bez’s ‘Supersun’ album was listed as the third best world music album of 2011 according to ‘Jimmy Sonde’ and ‘People in the limelight’ reported on rapper, 50cent’s distribution deal with Pepsi for his energy drink, Street kings, to feed 1 billion African kids.

‘Salome exclusive’ provided the week’s scandal, detailing the drama of a gay husband caught in bed with his best man. Both men are currently on the run while the wife is in a state of shock. ‘Ogbongeblog’ shared secret information on how to create a blogspot for free.

Inspirational quote of the week from ‘Journey to Rediscovery’ came from actress Vivica A. Fox: “A great figure or physique is nice but it is self-confidence that makes someone really sexy.”
