My son is on his own – Alao-Arisekola

by Isi Esene

Just like the Peoples Democratic Party chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur before him, businessman, Azeez Alao-Arisekola has disassociated himself from allegations surrounding his son’s alleged subsidy funds misappropriation.

Alao-Arisekola told reporters that his son is an adult who is capable of answering to his actions and the case should be treated as such.

Alao-Arisekola’s son, Abdullahi, is involved in the alleged fraudulent collection of fuel subsidy funds from the Federal Government under false pretense. His name and several others appeared in the first batch of names of alleged subsidy thieves released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mahmud Tukur, son of the current PDP Chairman, and Mamman Ali, son of the former PDP Chairman under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, also featured prominently in the EFCC list of individuals and companies to be prosecuted.

According to a statement made available to the Nation Newspapers, Azeez Alao-Arisekola responded to the arraignment of his son in a Lagos High Court on fraud charges saying;

“Abdullahi Alao is an adult and a businessman doing business like every other Nigerian.

“He is answerable for his actions and transactions under the law of the land. As an adult and a true Muslim, there is no doubt that he knows what is wrong and what is right.”

A nationwide labour protest which met the Federal Government’s attempt to remove all fuel subsidies in January, led to the investigation of the subsidy payments by the House of Representatives.  The House committee turned out a report which was later tainted with allegations of bribery by Mr. Femi Otedola, Zenon Oil boss, against the now suspended committee chairman, Farouk Lawan. This trial stems from the report of the House on the subsidy payments.
